Who: Link, his Mightyena, and open!
What: Link just got to Sheercliff, and he's already sick of feeling cramped
When: Morning
Where: Out by the Sheercliff Pokemon Center

Rocks... and more rocks... and more rocks... Link was getting tired of this place already, and he only just got here. Poor Epona's had to stay in her ball since there's just no room for even her to move about easily. Unless he's at the top, or so he's been told by some of the locals, but he hasn't gotten there yet. No, instead he'd been taking the slow way up the seeming endless stairs with Wolfie happily running around his trainer and poking his nose into every nook and cranny. Hours later, and only partway up, Link's beginning to reconsider the idea of walking the entire way to the top. Maybe flying up on Bane would have been a better idea.

Spotting the Pokemon Center up ahead, Link puts on an extra burst of speed, then flops down near the building with a sigh. Wolfie circles around him a couple times, then flops down with him, nudging him with a nose.

Was that a pebble that just bounced down the cliff to land in front of Link and Wolfie?

Why, yes, it was. And the cause? Well, that would be Sheik, clinging to Leaf's neck for dear life as the Meganium slid down an almost-sheer rock face with its handy new Rock Climb skill.

"Oof." ...And that would be Sheik making a less-than-dignified landing as Leaf came to a stop and he promptly tumbled off.

Brushing himself off as he stood, he glanced around, glad that not many people came here and thus wouldn't have seen his little mishap... oh. Stopping Link, he cringed to himself, then straightened up.

"...Welcome to Sheercliff," he told the newcomer somewhat sheepishly, "Don't mind the cliffs."

Link looks at them upside-down as Wolfie jumps to his feet, growing at the stranger and his Meganium. Don't you touch my trainer!

"Oi, Wolf," Link pats the Mightyena's side. "Knock it off." Wolfie gives one last growl, then backs down. Okay fine, but he's still not happy about the sneak attack. Link returns his attention to the other boy and the Meganium.

"Who're you?" he asks the stranger.

Sheik doesn't move when the Mightyena jumps to his feet - oh, Leaf is pretty tough, and he does have the rest of his team on his belt, but best not to provoke a possibly highly-leveled new Pokemon.

"I'm very sorry to startle you," he tells him, nodding once, "My name is Sheik. On behalf of the Ranger Task Force, welcome - if you need any assistance in locating lodging or some place to eat, I'd be happy to help."

It's a little speech he practically has memorised by now. Keeping track of new trainers does tend to make him more social than usual...

Some special welcoming committee from those Ranger Task Force people? Lucky him. He didn't realize Bohren needed welcoming committees. Oh well, might as well make use of the kid offering to help. Link points up, toward the top of the cliff face.

"I'm going up there," he says, deciding to just go straight to the point. "Tell me what I'll find."

Kid? But Sheik's a year older than him...

He pauses, then nods. "Very well. On top of the cliffs is the Sheercliff dojo, where you and your Pokemon can take classes. It's a requirement to do so in order to challenge the gym leader... er, once he returns."

With a gesture to the Pokemon Center nearby, he adds, "You can get a complimentary Rock Climb from there, if you like - it certainly makes the travelling easier."

More terrifying, but still. Easier.

He's not here? Well there goes his plans of walking in and facing the gym. He supposes he could just go to the dojo anyway, then. But what good is that if the leader isn't here?

"When will he come back?" Link asks.

~~Compact! He's compact!~~

Sheik just shrugs. They're working on that, seriously. "We're not entirely sure. We're currently trying to track him down, but really, the only thing to do is to train until he returns."

"Oh," he replies, frowning faintly. Well, he doesn't mind training too much - it'll help him get used to the region air, he supposes. He reaches to pat Wolfie and heaves a sigh. Wolfie flops next to him. Guess they'll be here a while until the leader comes back.

"Going to go back up?"

"In a moment," Sheik nods, "I have to drop something off at the RTF office." For a moment, he considers, then offers, "Would you like to go and get Rock Climb, and then I can show you the dojo? It might make things easier on you - I apologise, I did not get your name."

"Link," he states. "I don't want any new moves." Picky trainer is picky.

"It's just straight up that way, isn't it?" he points up along the cliff side.

Sheik simply shrugs. "Ah. Well, if you insist... and mostly. Do you possess anything that can fly you up?"

"Sure." Link sits up and pulls out a pokeball. He tosses the ball up, releasing his Skarmory. How's this for a flier? He stands and reaches to pat the steel bird's beak. "Ready to fly, Bane?"

Sheik stares for a bit - he's, well, never really seen a Skarmory, although he knows of rumours of them being seen in the route south from Blackthorn. Then, he gives Link a faint grin.

"I see you are well-equipped," he smiles. "I'm heading back up after checking in, so I suppose I will see you up there?"

Link nods. Okay. Wolfie is scritched and returned to his ball, then Link swings up on Bane. Guess he'll see you up there, Sheik.

Bane gives a couple flaps of his wings, then takes off straight up. Once they're far above the town, rather than going straight to where he sees the dojo, Link lets Bane have free reign to fly as he wants for a little while.

Sheik gazes skyward as they take off, then shrugs, straightens his hair and clothes (large Pokemon with large wings tend to produce breezes), and heads into the RTF office. It doesn't take long to hand in his latest work, recieve more, and to add Link's name to the list of trainers in Sheercliff (he hadn't gotten his full name, he realises, but can still check it off against the registry list).

Then it's back out, letting Leaf out again for the journey up. "Alright, let's go," he sighs, and clings tight as the Meganium starts up the cliff.
