Umbreon on the move

Who: Sheik, Shadow, OPEN
What: A nice evening stroll. Without permission, but oh well.
When: A little after sunset
Where: The clifftops, near the dojo

This evening, current denizens of Sheercliff, if one was to be hanging out near the dojo, they'd be able to see an Umbreon out on a stroll. Shadow, tired of all the training, had made his escape, and now he was doing his levelheaded best to learn everything he could about his temporary prison.

Nearby, his rather more exasperated trainer was busy looking for him, Absol at his side. Honestly, Shadow had been acting odd ever since he had got her...

Ah. There he was. Sighing, Sheik settled against the side of the dojo and simply kept an eye on him, Dusk settling down beside him with her paws folded. Umbreons were weird.

((OOC: Two for the price of one! Let me know in your subject line whether you want to interact with Sheik, Shadow, or both.))

Hi Shadow, have a friend

Faust didn't usually stray far from Bri's side, but she was getting kind of obsessive. He knew as well as she did that the Armonde guy was Team Rocket and not to be trusted, but he could smell lies, and he hadn't been lying when he said that he had nothing to do with the network post. Whatever they were up to, Armonde wasn't involved.

So he'd slipped away while she was in the middle of typing furiously on the nearest computer, trying to discover anything she could pin on him. And lo and behold, as he wandered he ran into another dark-type!

"Hey there," he said to the Umbreon, trotting up to him. "Have I seen you on circuit? You look kind of familiar."
doomberman: (What's going on in this thread?)

Faust nodded, sitting down near the Umbreon. Of course it was natural for pokemon to be wary around each other when they first met, with so much battling going on all the time. "Yeah, she's one of the RTF agents assigned to the circuit so we've been following it from the beginning."

He knew he recognized this Umbreon. He knew it. "What's your trainer's name? Are you from around here?"

"Johto, huh - my species is native to Johto but I was born here. I've traveled across Bohren a few times but I haven't gone anywhere else." Visiting another region would be fun, he thought, but since Bri was assigned here, he didn't think he'd be going anytime soon.

"Bri is my trainer, she's been running herself ragged trying to catch Team Rocket. I think she needs a break." He twitched the end of his tail. She needed a vacation alright, but wasn't likely to get it with Armonde on the circuit.
doomberman: (What's up guys?)

"So you and your trainer have been together that long? Bri and I have been together for a long time too," Faust said, poking at the dirt with his paw. He was one of those pokemon that it seemed was always in motion. "The RTF made me her partner when she joined - I was her first pokemon."

He still remembered the day when they told him he'd have a partner. He had been terrified - humans had never been good to him. But Bri was so enthusiastic about everything, all the time, she didn't have time to be mean.

Shadow's busy, let's chat with Sheik. :P

Kurt had trekked all the way up to the clifftop, meaning to get a better look at the Gym before he had to battle in it, and now he found himself avoiding the Dojo itself, veering away from the front doors. He felt oddly nervous, somehow. True he'd never challenged a gym before, but it couldn't be that hard, could it? Puzzles and fighting classes aside, he thought, remembering Viktor's lecture.

He was probably just unused to being alone, he decided, feeling that was at least slightly less embarrassing than being afraid of an empty building. Hermes had stayed behind in Kurt's bed at the Center, refusing to be budged from his well-deserved nap. Not that he was alone, Kurt realized, and moved forward. "Sheik!" he called with some surprise--he hadn't expected to see someone he knew in town. Certainly not so soon.

Sheik started, glancing up from the pad of paper in his lap - notes for the RTF, for new training ideas, for the tournament - and a few doodles in the margins, musical notes scattered here and there.

"Kurt," he smiled, relaxing when he saw who had interrupted him - he hadn't seen the other young man since their meeting in the tunnels. "How are you?"
comingupkurt: (Dude. Shut up.)

[personal profile] comingupkurt 2010-10-20 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine," said Kurt automatically, then frowned and smoothed his bangs irritably. "Well. Annoyed and impatient. But fine. I guess you got out of the tunnels alright?" he asked, glancing around and--ah, there was Shadow, a bit away, with another Pokemon Kurt didn't recognize. Now he supposed it was a good thing Hermes had opted to stay behind. He was still a bit touchy about the incident(s) in the tunnels, and Kurt didn't want to have to pull him out of yet another sulk.

"Mm, we got out fine... and ah, yes, this missing gym leader," Sheik sighed - he definitely understood Kurt's impatience. "I do know the RTF is trying to get ahold of him, but it's taking some while... did I tell you I joined?"

Hence the pile of paperwork on his lap, really.
comingupkurt: (Uh-huh...)

"The wha-oh! The Rangers? You ended up signing up after all? Was it difficult?" Kurt glanced down at the papers he'd originally assumed were for some strategic purpose but he glimpsed now...well, he saw mentions of Rangers but he also noticed something else. "You read music?" he asked without thinking, tilting his head at the doodled musical notes.

[personal profile] sheikahguide 2010-10-20 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not that difficult. My partner is a ten-year-old, let's leave it at that," Sheik shrugged, then nodded at the Absol napping at his side. "And I got an Absol out of it."

Sheik blinked, glancing down at the notes in the margins. "Ah - yes. I write it and play."

[personal profile] comingupkurt 2010-10-21 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"A ten-year-old," Kurt repeated, confused. Was that...literal, or some comment on the maturity level of Sheik's partner? Then, "And you compose as well? I play and sing a bit--well, not really since I started traveling, but back home." And he had well over a couple hundred songs on his PokeGear, transferred over as soon as he figured out how. "What do you play?"
sheikahguide: (02 - Poking around)

[personal profile] sheikahguide 2010-10-21 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm - well, he's old enough to be a trainer, I suppose." That didn't mean he had to like his new job as a glorified babysitter, though. "And I do, I have written music since I was young." The last question, strangely enough, gets a slight wince. "Er - promise you won't scoff."

Reaching into his bag, he withdrew a black instrument case. With a mildly wary glance at Kurt, he took a breath, then undid the clasps and lifted the lid.

Inside? A small gold lyre, just the right size for someone to hold it comfortably with one arm. Sheik lifted it out, settling it against his left arm and brushing the delicate strings with the tips of the fingers of his right hand. "I play this," he murmured - well, at least that explained the state of his fingertips.

[personal profile] comingupkurt 2010-10-21 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Scoff? People really said scoff? Kurt wondered, but he quickly broke out of this line of thought when the case emerged. Curious, he leaned forward slightly.

"It's gorgeous," he said when the case was opened, with the reverence of a long-time musical nerd upon faced with a well-used instrument. "I only ever did a bit of piano, for fun, I've never seen something like this up close."
sheikahguide: (06 - Little smile)

[personal profile] sheikahguide 2010-10-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheik did! ...But then, Sheik didn't speak to others like a normal person anyway.

"Thank you," he murmured, brushing the well-worn surface. Oh, it was still in excellent condition, but it had definitely been played frequently. "I've played piano, a little - but I prefer this one." And he played a few careful notes, easing into a gentle little tune.
comingupkurt: (Swoon.)

[personal profile] comingupkurt 2010-10-21 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kurt listened, enjoying the smooth, clear quality of the lyre's music. He didn't recognize the song--understandable, most of what he knew was pop, theatre, or the very, very old castrati songs, when he was vaguel interested in exploring a career as a soprano. "You're good," allowed Kurt. It was only a few notes of playing, but he felt generous in the face of a fellow trainer who could see beyond just the next big battle.

[personal profile] sheikahguide 2010-10-21 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheik would have been rather surprised if Kurt had recognised it, given that he had written the little tune himself. But still, that was beside the point.

"Thank you," he said again, still smiling - music was probably his one true love, even moreso than battling. "You said you sing? Perhaps if the tournament never takes off, we can start a band."

He was... only half-joking.
