Bri put her face in her hand, the other one reaching out to give Faust a reassuring scratch behind the horns. The powerup had made Faust a little restless, and Bri hoped he could keep his cool while she handled this situation.

A situation which was rapidly sounding more and more familiar the more she listened. "We're not going to have the same situation on the tournament circuit as we do with your gym badges, are we? Because we do not have time for it at an event like this."

She crossed her arms at the gym leader, frowning.

Dist was seething. "They don't deserve my badges, and he doesn't deserve his victory!" He pointed across the field at Medic, not taking his eyes off Bri.

Again, he gave a disapproving shake of the head. He patted Ivan on the back before returning him to his pokeball.

"If I am not needed in zhis dispute anymore, I vill be taking my leave."

"Yeah, sure, you can go," Bri said, waving the man to the side. "Sorry about this." She really didn't want to have anyone hear what she was going to say to Dist next, since the League generally frowned on League problems being aired publicly.

"Dist," she said, lowering her voice a little. "If he won the match, he won the match, and nothing you say is going to change it. You're already on thin ice with the League with the shenanigans you pull at your gym. Do you really want me to file a formal report and have you brought up on review?"

Faust watched the Ursaring and his trainer go and then sat down, scratching behind his horns. He looked nowhere near as menacing as he had about three seconds before, but he was still keeping a wary eye on that Scizor.

"I have a reputation to keep!" To his credit, he did lower his voice. "Losing to that savage harms my reputation. I'm going to have upstart trainers bothering me for weeks now!"

Bri could feel the headache starting. "Well then soundly kick a few upstart butts and you're back to being the mysteriously scary eighth gym leader - how is this a problem?"

Dist's logic was clearly not earth logic.

Dist heaved a put-upon sigh and recalled his Scizor, shrinking the ball and stashing it back in the inside pocket of his coat. "You just don't understand what it's like. It's so tedious, and they get in the way of my experiments. But whatever. I'll defeat him soundly the next time I see him; I'll know if he sets one foot anywhere near my city."

"Sure," Bri said. She had no idea why he had become a gym leader in the first place if he had this kind of attitude about losing, or about challengers in general. "Sounds like a plan. Glad we got that sorted out. Please try not to make my life difficult in the future."

Faust tilted his head at Dist, having watched the Scizor being recalled to her pokeball. He stood up and nudged at Bri's hand, clearly ready to get back to patrolling.

"Don't blame me for your nosiness. But whatever; I'm done here." Dist pulls out one last Pokéball, nonchalantly releasing Corax from its confines. "Come on. We're going home." The Honchkrow gives him a short chatter, then flaps her wings. Dist grips her talons in one hand and she takes off, lifting them up above the battlefield and off in the direction of Umberville.
