can't climb a cliff with webbed feet

WHO: Sora and anyone else passing by
WHAT: Stuck on the bottom of a cliff and lunch
WHERE: Edges of Sheercliff Town
WHEN: Lunchtime

Sora missed his chance to get his first badge, but that's not going to stop him! Sheercliff Town is right in front of him and so is another chance to win a badge. That is, if he could actually get inside the town.

He stared at his Psyduck and slightly frowned. "You can learn Rock Smash, but not Rock Climb? Well I guess if you evolve..." At that thought he sighed and flopped on the ground. "You can't evolve if I don't win us any battles though." He remembered his first tournament, which ended in a total failure, and decided that he would never feel like that again.

Well what's in the past stays there! There are more important things in life, and his grumbling stomach reminded him of that. He unpacked his supplies, only to discover that he'll be eating yet another PB&J sandwich. "When I get my energy back, I'm climbing in this town and will definitely be learning how to cook."

Armonde hated this town already. Officials at the Pokemon center had told him that using his Steelix was a threat to rock climbing areas around the town and that using Steelix could cause severe damage to the cliff. He had no other options for moving around the city and was forced to terrifing rope ladders and the deep stairways located within the cities walls.

He returned to the top of the cliff, Arbok at his side, he could use company and Wormadam was off doing investigation work at the Dojo. He stared out at the Ocean, checking his Pokegear for the 10th time in the past hour, "Chaaa~" Arbok slithered over to him, a concerned look in his eyes.

Armonde reached out and patted it on the nose, "Just impatience Arbok, nothing to worry about." he looked over and saw Sora sitting on the cliff and sighed. Great, another kid. Why were there so many on this circuit? He cursed in his head, wishing that he would have been sent to Issuh instead.

Armonde sighed to himself, "Yes. Just peachy." he stared at the ocean, it was fairly nice. He was happy to be done climbing the stairs inside the canyon, after only attempting two of the roper ladders he realized that he would rather spend an extra twenty minute climbing than, 1) losing his life or 2) losing one of his designer shoes.

Arbok slithered over closer to the kid and looked hungrily at his food, his stomach making a large lurching noise.

He waved his hand, "That's fine." Arbok lit up at this and turned back to Sora, his eyes sparkling. He reached over took the sandwich from his hand and devoured it. Armonde simply shook his head, he was going to feed him when he managed to find the Inn they were staying at.

Arbok simply beamed and gave the Sora loving, "Chaaaa~"

"No I am not." Arbok finished its food and investigated Sora a bit more. Perhaps if he made himself even cuter he could get some more food out of him? Not that Armonde never fed him, but it was so rare that he got to eat human food, which he loved, "And yes I was at the tournament there."

Armonde pulled out his pokegear and checked a few things on it, sighing to himself quietly, waiting it seemed, for something important.

Armonde closed his pokegear and placed it back into his pocket, "No, just awaiting a phone call. That is all." he turned backed and looked down at the boy, he was young. It was digusting at how young parents would allow their children to go into the world to persue a dream of becoming a Pokemon trainer. Armonde did not leave home until he was sixteen, he wondered if anyone really cared about a proper education these days.

He caught himself in mid thought, realizing that the way he was thinking was almost identical to that of his own parents. It had been years since he had returned home to see them, and he did not plan on it either. They had not sought contact since the day he left. He looked away from Sora and back at his Arbok, who was still staring at Sora as if he was the greatest thing to have ever happened ever. Armonde let a small smile come across his face as he walked forward and rubbed the back of Arbok's neck.

After a stop at the Shrine and another at the pools on Route 293, Kurt was ready to get things moving. Unfortunately, he must not have looked too closely at the map, because he was sure he would remembered reading about mountain climbing being a necessary activity just to enter the town.

"Great," he said, and sighed, flipping his bangs irritably. He had three options, according to his Pokegear--Rock climbing, not, in fact, an option; rope ladders, which looked about as sturdy as something made of rope could, and the stairs, which seemed the safest bet but were hardly an appealing option after the trek through Rout 293. Kurt sighed again.

"Just great."

"So it appears," said Kurt dryly, staring at the cliff face with no small amount of dread. He glanced to the side and saw what he guessed was another trainer, much younger. A newbie trainer like himself?

"Um. Hi," he added belatedly.

"Kurt," he replied. "Kurt Hummel. And this is Hermes," he added, gesturing to...air, apparently, because the Smeargle had vanished. Blinking Kurt glanced up and spotted the rogue Pokemon several feet away, eyeing the cliff speculatively. "Oh, no," he groaned. Ever since the potion he'd take earlier on the route for some minor injuries, Hermes had been filled with boundless energy. "Don't even think about. You don't even know Rock Climb!"

Sure, Ash was getting to Sheercliff Town soon, but he wasn't in too much in a rush. The tournament was finished - over with, and even though he was excited for a battle with the next gym leader, and he was so excited that he didn't really notice Sora.

However, Pikachu sure did! "Pikapika!" it squealed, immediately jumping off of Ash's shoulder in order to meet a new friend.

"Pika..." the little rodent replied. It did know how to climb the cliff, but it would be hard to explain it, wouldn't it? Especially since Pikachu jumped around rocks a whole bunch of times. It was basically one of the few things it had learned from training. However, beaming happily, the small mouse looked behind him in order to show that his trainer, Ash, was running to catch up to him.

Ash soon came up with a smile, laughing exhaustively. "Pikapi!" cried the electric-type as it ran back onto Ash's shoulder.

"Pikachu, did you make a new friend...? Oh, hey!"

"Yeah, that's right!" Ash replied with a huge grin on his face, giving a thumbs up in reply. "I'm Ash and this's Pikachu, my buddy. So did you need some help?"

It was true that he understood most of his Pokémon, but it wasn't like he understood them completely.

"Well, not right now..." Ash laughed it off, realizing that he did have a Pokémon that knew Rock Climb, but of course, he had brought his Torterra back to Professor Oak's after his first gym battle. "Though me and Pikachu are definitely going to climb the cliff, right, Pikachu?"

The Pikachu gave a squeal in reply, as the two of them were determined to do this.
nicepartner: (laugh → did you just say OTP?)

[personal profile] nicepartner 2010-09-24 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I am!" Ash replied, a huge grin lying on his face mischievously. It was obviously a fact that both he and Pikachu were going to climb that cliff, no matter what. "Besides, if Pikachu can do it, so can I, right?"

Pikachu gave a squeal in reply, telling its trainer that he was definitely right.

"Well, we've done it before, so it's not that hard! And if I had Torterra with me, I'd be able to get up this in no time, but this's also great training!" Ash was real excited about doing this, and this would help him catch new Pokémon as well as learn some new combination moves for the next gym battle!

Open air!

Rava certainly didn't mind the caves of Quakeburg, but she always loved it when the circuit came around and she had a chance to fly in the open air without the possibility of banging her head on something. Open air was amazing.

The Flygon shrieked happily, zooming around before smelling food. She instantly went to investigate, spotting a kid and a Psyduck. Not one of the ones Shawn had battled. She landed nearby, walking over a little curiously. Why wasn't this trainer going up the cliff? Shawn always climbed it. He had a thing for rock climbing...

"Flygon?" She head tilted at the kid curiously.

Rava didn't really mind the awkwardness. She'd met plenty of people before, and everyone reacted differently!

She lowered her head and chirped happily at the trainer, smiling at him and the Psyduck. New people were always so fun!

Her own trainer wasn't too far away. The black-haired teen didn't really seem like anyone special, just another kid on the circuit. Hearing her name called made Rava peer over her shoulder at him before turning her attention back to Sora, examining him through the red dome covering one of her eyes.
